8th Annual Reigning Roses Walk
Virtual or Covid-safe | Sunday, May 9, 2021
Proceeds support Rose Haven’s move to a new building in 2022!
Since 2014, the Reigning Roses Walk has been Rose Haven’s signature event, bringing together our community of dedicated donors, volunteers, and guests each Mother’s Day to raise funds and awareness for our day shelter. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our 2020 event was entirely virtual.
As more people are being vaccinated, the 2021 event will be a hybrid of the virtual walk, and a COVID-safe, in-person walk!
Please help by donating or fundraising. Then on Mother’s Day take a stroll independently, or with us! Limited spot available 10am-2pm for households to participate at the in-person, covid-safe event, which will include a walk-through of our newly leased space!
No matter where you are you can play an important role in providing a new indoor space for Rose Haven’s current and future guests.
Double Your Impact!
Q- How do I register for Reigning Roses 2021?
A- Follow these steps to register, whether you will participate in the virtual walk, or the COVID-safe, in-person walk:
- Go to makeitreign.org and choose if you want to register as an individual, or create/join a team.
- Register yourself and your family.
- You won’t need to choose a donation amount until the end of registration.
- If you’ve never used this fundraising platform before, you will get an email asking you to claim your fundraising page, which creates your account. If you’ve participated in the past, you should still have an account to login with.
- You will receive additional emails: a donation receipt, a confirmation of registration, and one with the subject: “Welcome to Reigning Roses 2021!”
- From that email, follow the link that says “Let’s Start Fundraising.” This takes you back to Classy (the fundraising platform).
- Click “Manage” in the top right corner to customize your page, add your own photo, and write the reasons you personally care about this campaign. You may have to login first before you can edit your page. If you created a team, you will be able to make edits to either page.
- You can also make a custom URL (example: makeitreign.org/jess)
- Email, text, and share your campaign on social media!
Q- After I register, what’s next?
A- Once your fundraising page is ready, you can send it to friends and family, and share the reasons that a new home for the Haven is important to you!
This is an important aspect of the virtual campaign, to bring attention to our campaign and get others involved. So whether or not you’re able to join us in person on Mother’s Day, we hope you will promote your campaign virtually!
Q- What is a COVID-safe walk?
A- Reigning Roses Walk 2021 is a hybrid event: virtual and in person.
Everyone who registers will get a confirmation email with a link to sign up to walk in person. Those who join the COVID-safe walk will need to select a time slot for their pod. Each pod will start the course at a different time, keeping a safe distance between participants. We ask that everyone wear a mask along the route. There will be interactive outdoor stops, swag giveaways, and a visit to both Rose Haven facilities, old and new. Time slots for the COVID-safe walk will be limited, so reserve yours early!
Q- What is a virtual walk?
A- The virtual Reigning Roses walk is for people who want to get involved with fundraising and show their support, without joining us in person on Mother’s Day.
We are encouraging all participants to register and create a fundraising page and team, but due to COVID-19 safety precautions, understand that not everyone will be able to join us in person on the day of the event. We hope you’ll promote the virtual campaign, then on Mother’s Day, May 9th, at 10:00 AM, go to rosehaven.org to see the video debut and tour of our new space!
Q- How should I share on social media?
There are lots of ways to spread the word!
You can email, text, and share your fundraising page with friends and family. You can also record a 15-second video clip of your walk, wherever you are, tag us on social media @rosehaven_pdx with the hashtags: #200Kbymothersday, #makeitreign #RRW2021 #reigningroses2021 #newhomeforthehaven
Q- How do I sign up to walk in person?
A- After you register for the walk on makeitreign.org, you will receive a confirmation email.
This email will contain a link to Sign Up Genius to select a time slot for your pod to join us in person. It’s important that you arrive on time; spots are limited, and we are taking every precaution to ensure that participating pods are distanced from each other along the route.
Q- What if I registered for the in-person walk, but can’t make it now?
A- That’s okay, we understand! Circumstances can change, and we want to accommodate you!
We just ask that you cancel your registration through Sign Up Genius, so that your time slot can be made available to another pod. You can also cancel by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q- How many people can I bring in my walking pod?
A- We take the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, guests and participants very seriously, and we want this to be a fun and safe environment for everyone.
We have every confidence that our supporters will only sign up to participate with people in their immediate bubble. We realize this may vary based on household size, those with vaccinations, etc. Our goal is to reduce contact between attendees, staff, and others.
Q- Can I register now, and sign up to walk in person later?
A- Yes! We understand that some folks may want to wait until we are closer to Mother’s Day to determine if they can join us in person.
You can follow the link from your registration email at any time, but please be aware that spots may fill up quickly, as they are limited.
Q- If I make an individual fundraising page, do I have to join a team?
A- Joining a team is optional! Some folks choose to walk and fundraise on their own, and others enjoy a friendly competition with their team.
If you claim your individual fundraising page, you can customize the content and messaging, and easily share with your friends, family, and other community members. Contact us if you have questions about joining a team!
Q- How long is the route?
A- The walk is about 1.5 miles, with interactive, COVID-safe stops along the way.
Q- Is the event wheelchair accessible?
A- Yes, the route follows the sidewalks in NW Portland, and the entrances to our new facility are wheelchair accessible.
