We are very pleased to introduce Avinder Deol, Rose Haven’s new Program Director. Avi is currently making a long trek to the Rose City from Iowa City, she began work on May 10th at Rose Haven!
Avi is thrilled to join the team at Rose Haven after spending the last 6 years in Iowa City. She received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Iowa, where she spearheaded a campus-wide advocacy project to promote and include gender inclusive restrooms, working with students, staff and community partners, which led to her being awarded the School of Social Work Director’s Award. She has served as a mentor for social work students through the University of Iowa to students completing practicum placement.
While working at the Women’s Resource & Action Center on a BIG 10 Campus, Avi helped to lead diversity and inclusion workshops, coordinated a statewide leadership institute for collegiate women and co-facilitated a mentorship for adolescent girls. Most recently, Avi served as the Executive Director of Transformative Healing, Iowa’s only LGBTQIA specific anti-violence agency working with survivors of sexual violence. Originally from New York, Avi also holds a Master’s degree in Health Advocacy from Sarah Lawrence College. She served as the Senior Housing Specialist on a street-to-home outreach team in New York City for several years prior to relocating to Iowa. Avi brings a passion for social justice, equity and inclusion to all aspects of her work, and is excited to start the next chapter of her life in Portland, Oregon.
Avi will be responsible for oversight of all Rose Haven’s programs and direct service staff.
