While Rose Haven helps women address basic needs like food, clothing and daytime shelter, we also address long-term issues through our wellness and empowerment program, Bloom. Financial wellness is an important piece, and essential to the self-sufficiency of our guests.
Finance and accounting professionals from various banks and institutions come onsite to teach our guests valuable skills to better understand how they can manage their resources.
Darryl, the branch manager from Washington Federal Bank, Raleigh Hills has been a regular volunteer, teaching Finance 101, Budgeting 101 and working one-on-one with our guests to help them tackle their unique financial challenges. Darryl has been an important member of our volunteer team and helped us attain a $1000 grant from Washington Federal for the Bloom program.
Darryl had this to say:
“I am diverse culturally and possess the firm believe that we are all one. Being born and raised in Honolulu, HI and attending Catholic schools allowed me the chance to help others with the various outreach programs. After graduating from high school in 1984, I moved to Portland to attend the University of Portland, and I was involved with other programs helping those that were disadvantaged.”
Darryl also wanted us to share his motto:
Thank you to Darryl, Shanil and all the volunteers from Washington Federal for empowering our ladies with financial wellness strategies!
