The most powerful moment for me occurred on my last official day at Rose Haven. When we were given our rose pins, one of the women pinned mine onto my scarf and said, “This is for you, so that you carry us with you wherever you go.” I realized that I truly do this – I have come to genuinely love these women, and I think about their well-being outside of clinical. Although most of the time I spent at Rose Haven was very impactful, this moment tied the entire experience together by reminding me what I have really gotten out of the experience: A sense of community and a genuine love for this population. The whole experience has made me want to do nursing in a community setting, and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.
